Forgive my selfish ambition and pride.
You became nothing
to show me the depths of your love.
It makes no sense
that you would love someone like me.
Forgive my cowardice.
You faced death with courage
because of the depths of your love
for someone like me.
How can it be?
Forgive my greed.
Why did you give generously
to someone like me
who’s always holding something back?
What foolish grace you’ve granted!
Forgive my indifference.
Your passion overwhelms my apathy.
Your cross becomes my turning-point.
How is it that your dying love can resurrect
what has been long dead inside me?
I’ve no argument now.
There is nothing I can say
that is equal to what you have said
when you forgave me
for turning my back on you—
you, my truest friend.
What can I say in response
to so great a love as yours?
I owe you everything.
I give you my love,
my heart, my life.
Now help me to live unwavering, Lord,
in the freedom of your love—
humble and generous, passionate and courageous.
Amen.
