I used to be so certain
but there is little in life
I can keep straight anymore.
I know you are patient—
that much I know—
gracious and forgiving.
I know I’m limited
and life is short.
I know you know
and I don’t.
I know my life
is not my own.
I know you weep
when I weep
and I know that hope
is an irrational gift,
like catching
tomorrow’s laughter today.
I’ve known your care
and provision,
your mercy and compassion—
but I don’t know
where you are taking me now.
I only know enough
to say thanks
and I love you.
So, please stay with me
here in this place
of few certainties.

all I
know
