there is no reason to be afraid
Jesus would have you know: there is no reason to be afraid. You needn’t worry about the ‘what ifs’ and the ‘yes, buts’. Do not heed too readily the criticisms nor the down-putters.
You needn’t worry about defending nor attacking; in Jesus there is only loving.
You needn’t worry about why you are awake at 3:17 in the morning. Jesus can awaken you for nothing more than peace and restful prayer. There is no reason to be afraid.
Mark the simple prayer to which the Spirit inspires you. Sit a while with it. Make a home in it. This prayer is composed of, perhaps, but seven words and it could even be trimmed to six. Still, sit with it. Be silent with it. There is no reason to care about what may happen or even what has happened. There is only the present moment and that is all that matters. And in this present moment you are loved. And that is all that matters. You are loved.
So, breathe this simple prayer: “Dispel my fear with your perfect love.”
Sit with it a while.
Now, trim it. Take out the word “perfect” because God’s love is perfect. You needn’t worry about that. There is no reason to be afraid.
Just sit with Jesus in simple prayer until you feel you need to go back to bed.
Amen.
