I Carry You

This poem is dedicated to my brother on his birthday. Tony, I miss you and wish you all the best.

With love,
Troy

……………………

When my feet were on fire,
you carried me home;
so, on this your day, I am thankful
for the countless ways you’ve cared,
all that you have dared,
and the burdens you shared.

And, I wonder: where did you put all that fire?
Did you know I can see it hidden
behind your smile?
Don’t worry, I’ll keep your sacred secret:
though the light of suffering burns white-hot,
the mystery of joy shines brighter.

Brother, I prayed you were able
to find peace in the fight,
and I pray you know love,
God’s grace and guiding light.
Forgiven, let us forgive—
let mercy kill the guilt.
Freed and free,
I carry you in my heart
as you carried me.
